GM pigs infiltrate US food chain

As many as 400 pigs are thought to have slipped through the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) ban on the sale of genetically engineered livestock for meat, the department has reported.

 

The animals were the offspring of those used in genetic research and which had been illegally sold to a meat broker. The original pigs were used as part of an experiment involving the use of bovine genes, aimed at boosting grow rates without the use of antibiotics
