Improvements to working equipment brings Turkey closer to the EU
Every day, legal, social and economic changes are being made in Türkiye to bring the country closer to the EU.
One recent improvement was the upgrading of workers’ footwear and safety equipment to EU standards. Dema Deri Mamulleri ve Ayakkabi Sanayi A.S., has been making police, combat and workers safety shoes and boots for 55 years and is capitalising on the changes by beefing up its own range of steel-capped safety shoes in leather and nubuck. Dema’s ‘industry uncle’ is Yesil Kundura, whose first export order for combat boots went to the Iraqi Army some twenty years ago.
The Dema brand recently improved its credibility by becoming the exclusive Turkish distributor of Goodyear’s safety footwear and snow boots. Italian-based company, Billy S.p.a, is responsible for licensing the Goodyear brand name on safety footwear throughout
Dema offers 50 to 60 different styles, including 20 to 25 Goodyear models, all of which employ injection technology. Some styles are produced by Goodyear and others are imported by Dema. The 2003 sales target for Goodyear brands is 100,000 pairs and Dema’s own capacity is 2000-3000 pairs daily.
