In 2002, the number of registered farmsteads in Ukraine rose by 1,400 to 43,000, with the biggest increases being seen in Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyrovograd, Cherkassy, Mykolayiv, Zaporyzhya regions and in Crimea. Ukrainian farmers currently occupy some 2.8 million ha of land, most of which is given over to arable crops. The average size of farm is 63 ha.
