Callaway`s footwear entry impresses at PGA

04/02/2003

Headed by two sports industry veterans, president Kyle Weiner and executive vice President James Gorman, Callaway Golf has entered the competitive Golf Footwear Market for 2003. Right out of the box at the recent PGA Show in Orlando, the Callaway line is state-of -the-art. With four men's models and three for ladies, the CG Collection, CG Sport, ERC Collection and CG Pro Series, offered exclusively for men.

Callaway pulls right alongside industry leaders FootJoy and Nike with designs that use brand name components such as Pittards World class Leather, Comfortemp lining materials and eVENT® Waterproof Technology.  The Pittards leather used is WR100 for ultimate waterproof protection, which absorbs less water, stays lighter in wet conditions, and dries more quickly than conventional leathers. Comfortemp temperature balancing materials help create a dynamic 'Climate Control’ system within the shoe.  eVENT Waterproof Technology with its unique Direct Venting method of breathability combined with Dry System Technology is a fabric liner that provides complete waterproof protection from the elements while releasing perspiration without absorbing it, keeping the feet both dry and cool.

Other high-tech features and components include an exclusively developed removable soft spike they call 'Big Bertha', which has an oversized asymmetrical design to provide more power.  The spikes being lighter and more flexible are made from a dual-density PP and PU composition.  Big Bertha is housed in a patented Positional Traction Technology outsole with nylon shank, and TPU spike skeleton and stabilizer with double clicking "fast in, fast out" locking system. This whole system is compression molded into a softer density EMAX High Abrasion Midsole for comfort.  Callaway's new package is designed along simple classical lines including saddles, plain and cap toes and a sealed moc-seam toe look. Callaway have included a twin gore slip-on and a sportier wing tip to complete the package.
