Punjab leather stitching centres to improve exports

29/01/2003

The Punjab government has unveiled plans to open leather stitching centres in Sialkot, Gujrat and Gujranwala to help boost the region’s leather product exports.

The Punjab leather industry earns about Rs600 million (US$12.6 million) per year with the US providing its main market.

The announcement was made earlier this week by the Punjab industry minister Chaudhry Ajmal Cheema. Addressing the Punjab Institute of Leather Technology, he also described the government’s plans to enhance exports by providing additional funds for the purchase of new manufacturing equipment.
