Russian trade surplus falls in ‘02

Russia’s foreign trade surplus in the first eleven months of 2002 came in at $41.8 billion, the State Statistics Committee has advised - $3.67 billion less than the year before.

The figures were based on foreign trade indicators calculated using the balance of payments method and include Customs estimates for unofficial trade. Foreign trade totalled $149.8 billion, up 5.9% on the year before with a 2.5% increase being seen in exports to $95.8 billion and a 12.5% rise in imports to $54.016 billion.
