Bulgarians invest US$2 million in Mpumalanga

A new marino sheepskin processing plant is now up and running in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Following a US$2 million investment by the Bulgarian consortium, Afrimarino, the factory near Bronkhorspruit will create an estimated 40 to 100 jobs.

The factory already produces footwear, clothing and car seats for export to Bulgaria, and plans are in place to expand its market to a further four European countries over the next few months.

Speaking to the local press, Theo Ignatov, a manager at Afrimarino, said the plant was expected to generate an expected R9 million (US$1 million) this year alone.

The facility was set up after the Bulgarian embassy in South Africa introduced the consortium to the Mpumalanga Investment Initiative (MII) in May 2002.
