21/01/2003

Russia’s first deputy agriculture minister Sergei Dankvert, announced in Berlin on Friday that the government plans to introduce meat quotas with effect from either February 15 or April 1, 2003.

At the end of 2002, the governmental commission for protection measures in foreign trade ruled that meat quotas should be imposed, but that this could only be done under a government resolution. The quotas will encompass an estimated 1.05 million tonnes of poultry meat, 450,000 tonnes of pork and 420,000 tonnes of beef.
