Spring reopening for FBO facility

17/01/2003
The former Future Beef Operations (FBO) plant in Arkansas City, Kansas, has been purchased by the mortgage holder of the facility.

At a public auction attended by around 40 bidders in Denver, Colorado, on Wednesday, the Bank of Nova Scotia outbid rivals Cowley County Acquisition and Smithfield Foods to secure the facility for a cool $28.8 million.

However, the figure is far less than the $160 million owed to the bank by the FBO operation, which called in the liquidators in September (For previous stories, use leatherbiz.com search facility, entering ‘FBO’ in search box).

The bank has appointed Chicago-based Creekstone Farms to run the facility.  Best known-for its pure-bred Angus beef, Creekstone says it plans to reopen the plant this spring, providing employment for around 500 people.
