Austria’s Gabor axes 300 jobs
Austrian shoe manufacturer Gabor has axed a further 300 jobs at its plant at Spittal,
At the same time, it has voluntarily taken the step of maintaining its workers’ salaries at 93% of their previous levels, as opposed to the 55% it was entitled to under Austrian law. The company initially made 80 job cuts during July and October 2002.
The Mayor of Spittal said he hoped Gabor would keep its remaining production site in the area as the company is one of the Carinthian region’s biggest employers and has been manufacturing there for decades.
