Irish cattle slaughter down 14.8% in November 2002

The Central Statistics Office of Ireland has advised that 14.8% fewer cattle were slaughtered in November 2002 compared with the previous year and that sheep and pig slaughter declined by 9.1% and 6.7% respectively.

 

The number of sheep slaughtered in January-November 2002 was 17.6% lower than the corresponding 2001 period. Over the same period, cattle slaughter fell 6.3%, while pig slaughterings decreased by 5.1%.

 

EU sheep slaughtering figures for the periods January to August 2001 and 2002 decreased by 0.5%. The United Kingdom and Greece recorded increases of 15.3% and 1.3% respectively whilst France and Spain recorded decreases of 6.7% and 0.9% respectively.
