ECCO sales top one million in UK

14/01/2003

The footwear manufacturer ECCO is claiming an all time record, having sold over one million pairs of shoes in the UK during 2002 for the first time ever.  The one-millionth shoe was purchased in the Sheffield own brand store in December 2002 which opened on the 24th October 2001.

UK managing director Mark Pearson comments: “This achievement is a milestone marker for ECCO UK, we are really delighted that ECCO’s continuing success has such visible results, an annual sale in excess of one million pairs shoes is no mean feat, but ever the optimists, we hope to smash this record in 2003”

As growth for ECCO continues to expand in the UK with an estimated 53 million euros in annual sales in 2002, ECCO is capitalising by furthering business development with a planned 10 new stores openings over 2003. The target locations are all high footfall areas in major cities across the UK including, Glasgow, Bristol and Birmingham.

“We are looking for prime sites with high footfall where we can develop brand awareness further. We will concentrate on areas where our current distribution channels are weaker,” continues Pearson.

A constant growth in turnover and earnings has allowed major investment in all strategic areas, from product development to human resources. The company’s goal is to maintain a 10% to 15% increase in turnover every year.
