Philippines footwear sector records growth amid competition

The group representing footwear manufacturers in Marikina City in the Philippines have highlighted their achievements over the past five years, in the face of adverse trading conditions.

 

During the period the sector grew by 4.86 per cent making it one of the country’s leading exporters.

 

The Philippines footwear sector consists of about 3,000 manufacturers employing an estimated 60,000 workers, the group said.

 

Marikina City accounts for 20 per cent of the total income generated by the footwear industry and is home to 600 footwear manufacturers employing more than 8,000 people.
