Russians import 34% more meat in 2002

According to the State Customs Committee, between January-October 2002 Russia imported 34% more meat than the year before.

 

During the period, some 896,800 tonnes were imported compared with 667,400 tonnes the year before, with the bulk of 794,700 tonnes coming from outside the Commonwealth of Independent States. In value terms, the increase was $330 million to $1 billion. The average price of meat meanwhile climbed to $1,137 per tonne from 1,004 per tonne the year before.
