A Taiwanese freight plane with a cargo of finished leather crashed in the Taiwan Strait early on Saturday, local transportation officials have reported.

TransAsia Airway Flight GE791, bound for Macau, disappeared approximately 50 minutes after taking off from Taipei International Airport at 1.05 a.m. local time.  The French-made ATR72-200 aircraft went down 27.6 kilometres from the Penghu island chain, off Taiwan’s west coast.  As of Monday, no trace of the aircraft had been found and both crew members were presumed killed.
