Irish cattle slaughter down 3.7% in October 2002

The Central Statistics Office of Ireland has advised that 3.7% fewer cattle were slaughtered in October 2002 compared with a year earlier, and that the sheep and pig slaughter were down 18.1% and 11% respectively.

The number of sheep slaughtered in January-October 2002 was 18.5% lower than the corresponding 2001 period. Over the same period, the cattle slaughter fell 5.2%, while the pig slaughter decreased by 5%.
