New Chinese leather chemicals flow brought on stream

Seeking to take a bigger slice of the fast expanding Chinese market for leather and textile chemicals, the Swiss chemicals producer Clariant has opened a CHF4.5 million ($3 million) production plant in Tianjin, China. Completed in the space of 14 months, the new plant has a production capacity of 6,000 tons per year, with the option of a further 6,000 tons.

The Tianjin plant brings the total of Clariant's production plants worldwide to six and the number of employees working its Textile, Leather and Paper Chemicals, Pigments & Additives, and Masterbatches Divisions to 1,000. In the first three-quarters of the current year, the company generated sales of around CHF 300 million in the Greater China region, where its manufacturing investments currently total CHF 150 million.
