Türkiye’s leather chemical firms look to China

A second Istanbul-based company, Sarchem Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret, has opened premises in Shanghai. Following the example of chemical group Sisecam, which opened an office in the city in 2000, Sarchem hopes to tap the potential of mainland China using local agents.

Sarchem specialises in high quality leather finishing compounds, such as polyacrylated/polyurethane dispersions and polyacrylate solutions for garments, footwear and accessory leather items. Lacqueurs, protein binders and wax emulsions, both cationic and anionic-based, also feature in their product line-up. The company exports to 15 countries globally, and gained the ISO-9001: 2000 quality management certificate in April 2002.

China has long been an enigma for Turkish producers. Garment makers, with their upmarket ‘boutique’ focus, realised they could not compete here. Double face is relatively new to China and Turkish sellers of finished leathers and chemicals have found a more promising niche.
