Drought forces Australian sheepskin specialist into administration

The sheepskin shortages brought about by the ongoing Australian drought have been blamed for one of the country’s oldest makers of ugh (nomadic sheepskin) boots going into voluntary administration.

Local reports say Shepherds Woolskins of Cootamundura in the south west of New South Wales had already laid off most of its 80 workers, having embarked on a nine week shutdown in September. The company operated its own tannery and produced a range of sheepskin items besides boots.
