Export of Brazilian leather to Taiwan up
Brazilian leather exports to Taiwan have increased considerably in the last few years, according to the Office for Brazilian Business in Taiwan. In 1997, Brazil’s share of Taiwan´s leather imports was 1.8%, in 2001 it increased to 4.7% with a turnover of $25 million.
By July 2002, local importers had already purchased around $14 million worth of Brazilian leather, a 4.91% growth over the year previous.
The director of the Brazilian Office in Taiwan, Paulo Pereira Pinto, said he regretted that, despite the growing business, Brazil still has a very small share of the local leather market compared to existing demand.
