China leather industry appoints BLC as ‘Eco Leathers’ test organisation

19/11/2002

The UK-based BLC Leather Technology Centre has announced that it has been appointed as Official Testing Organisation to the China Leather Industries Association (CLIA).

As such, it will test for ‘restricted substances’ on leathers exported from China such as formaldehyde, chromium VI, certain azo dyes and pentachlorophenol (PCP). The testing programme provides the cornerstone of CLIA’s ‘Eco Leathers’ initiative that is aimed at ensuring the industry’s output meets established international safety standards.
