Hall/Westfield rename
WesTan is the new name of the E.H. Hall/Westfield Tanning Co. of Westfield, PA. The name of the company was changed to rectify some confusion among the various customer categories who were receiving products and billing from various divisions or names, such as E.H. Hall, Westfield Tanning, Hall/Westfield, Hall/Votan (Votan was the brand name of sole leather produced by the former Virginia Oak Tanning Co.), WL. Johnson, or other various combinations of the names.
WesTan began operations in 1867 as the Eberle Tanning Company, tanners of sole leather, and was run as a family business until it was purchased by the E.H. Hall Co, a sole leather cutter, in 1983. In 1993 the men and women working in the tannery and cutting unit became owners under an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) programme.
