Indian leather exports fall in April-June 2002

According to government's statistical department, India's leather industry has recorded a 10% decline in overall exports to $614.38 million in April-July 02.

The decrease was due to a hefty 44.26% decline in leather garment exports to $80.59 million: a 16.13% drop in footwear components to $67.97 million, and a 3.86% fall in leather goods exports to $123.29 million.

However, finished leather and footwear recorded growth rates of 75% and 3.74% to $178.61 million and $139.42 million respectively.
