New patent leather hardener from Bayer
The German chemicals giant Bayer has added to its range of ‘Baygen’ products for leather with Baygen Hardener CF - an isocyanate-based crosslinking agent specially formulated to enhance the cold flex resistance of patent leather.
Established Baygen products for high gloss leather include Top U 01 and Baygen Hardener SN 01. When Baygen Top U 01 is combined with Baygen Top MS, different matt effects can be obtained by varying the mixing ratio, Bayer says. Other claimed advantages include good scuff and scratch resistance and high levels of thermostability – properties that make the systems suitable for leather with negative embossing patterns. Baygen systems are also said to be suited to applications where the material is subject to elevated levels of mechanical strain, e.g. during dry-drumming.
