The return of the vintage skateboard shoe

18/10/2002

Skate-shoe brand Etnies is introducing what it terms ‘the most directional collection to date’ for the Spring 2003 market. The offering mixes old and new, with the brand seeing a return to classic styling with the re-launch of some of its most successful styles.

These include the Sal 23 – designed by Sal Barbier, and what is termed ‘the infamous’ Natas signature shoe which originally hit the ramps in the late 1980s. This classic performance skate shoe was designed and created by skating hero Natas Kaupas back in 1987.

The follow-up to this suggests that there is also a change of direction for the brand and a considerable increase in its range of contemporary styles and fashion inspired skate footwear. Leading the charge is the multi-purpose Ethic, a functional shoe that is available in four different colourways. Said to be a simple, stark design, Ethic is crafted with a suede/soft action leather upper and given a lightweight EVA midsole for added comfort and support. The outsole is equipped with a soft rubber base for maximum grip.
