More trade sought between Tunisia and Pakistan

14/10/2002

The eighth meeting of the joint committee to improve trade between Tunisia and Pakistan was co-chaired by the Tunisian Minister for Industry and Energy and the Pakistan's Minister for Privatisation, at the end of September.

Exports from the North African country to Pakistan are currently limited to fertilisers and mechanical equipment, while imports from Pakistan cover a broader product range including leather and textiles.

Tunisia, which hosted the third Meet in Africa leather event, October 6-12, has just over 420 companies directly or indirectly involved in the leather and footwear sector and has been developing its exports of these products to Europe, as well as other regions.

At the same time as the Meet in Africa trade show was taking place, the Tunisian Textile Federation held its Texmed 2002. In the first eight months of the year, Tunisia had exported textiles and clothing worth just over $2 billion. Tunisia is the EU's fourth largest supplier of textiles and clothing.
