September 18, in Grasse. A major figure in the French leather industry died, his death on the eve of "Le Cuir à Paris" cast a shadow over the opening proceedings the next morning. A man of great commitment, a few days earlier, he had participated in a meeting of CIDIC, the interprofessional committee for the development of the leather, leathergoods and footwear industries, in Paris and the same evening attended a SPACE meeting in Rennes.

For a full half century he he held various posts and fulfilled numerous functions in the industry, bringing his exceptional human and professional qualities to everything he did. Since March 2000 he had presided over the Syndicat Général des Cuirs et Peaux; the same year he co-organised the IHATIS Congress, and COTANCE meeting in Lyon. An accident had prevented him from attending the last IHATIS meeting in Slovenia a few weeks before his death. He was firmly in tune with the aims of IHATIS to see
improvement in the quality of raw hides and skins.

M. Lecomte was one of the most well-known and well-liked personalities of the French leather industry, attending all the major national and international events. He was chairman of Lecomte SA in Grasse and Lecomte Italia, S. Croce sull Arno and other involved with major suppliers of raw hides and skins . He was an Officier de la Légion d'Honneur and a Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and two grandchildren.
