Puma gets up close and personal with new ‘Top Thrift Winner’
With only 510 pairs produced, Puma’s new ‘Top Winner Thrift’ line of sneakers won’t just be one of this autumn’s most exclusive lines of footwear. Uniquely, each pair will also come complete with membership of an internet-based club, in which wearers will be encouraged to get to know each other.
Reviving a style last seen in the 1980s, each pair is cut directly from second hand clothing. Along with each pair, the purchaser receives a numbered certificate of authenticity, a poster depicting the evolution of the line and photographs of the articles of clothing used to make their individual pair of shoes. Additionally, he or she will receive an invitation to join the ‘Thrift Web Community’ – a "global communication centre where these exceptional individuals can get to know one another based on their similar affinities for extraordinary footwear," Puma says.
From September 25-29 2002, PUMA will host a gallery exhibition at the old Truman Brewery in London (4/5 dray walk off brick lane E160L) to showcase every pair of Thrift Shoes before they are delivered to stores around the world. The countries selling the exclusive Thrift Shoes are Austria, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
