Subsidies needed to arrest slide in Czech agriculture

Farms in the Czech Republic will close without government aid, according to the country’s farmers.
The Agricultural Association, whose members number 1,019 and represent around 37% of farmed land in the Czech Republic, has said that many farms will go out of business before the end of the year without emergency government funding.
The Europe-wide flooding in August was partly responsible for the crisis, the association revealed. However, they stressed farmers were already suffering with increased competition from cheap imports and an inability to sell into traditional export markets due to the sharp appreciation of the Czech crown.
