European poll shows growing appetite for EU membership
In Poland, or example, public support for membership rose to 49% from the previous 44%, registered in May 2001.. Those who said they would vote against joining meanwhile dropped from 33% to 24%.
The survey was carried out in 13 countries in April and May and based on interviews with 1,000 people in each country, representing a cross-section of the adult population. The only exeptions to the trend were the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Latvia, where fewer people were in favour of membership.
