The Agriculture Ministry of the Czech Republic has calculated damage suffered by farmers during the recent Europe-wide floods at Kc 2.5 billion ($800 million)., although Karel Mach, a ministry spokesperson, stressed that this figure was still a gross estimate.  Only around Kc 700 million of the sum is expected to have been insured.

Mach said that, although many cattle and pig farms were insured, a significant number of vegetable producers were not.
