New COTANCE presidency looks to the future

Members of COTANCE, the Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community elected a new presidency at their general assembly meeting of June 14.

The appointees were:

President, Josep Costa, CEC-FECUR (Spain)

First Vice-President, Giuseppe W. Peretti, UNIC (Italy)

Second Vice-President, Herman Hulshof, FNL (Netherlands)

Third Vice-President, Salvatore Mercogllano, UNIC (Italy)

Fourth Vice-President, Jean Claude Ricomard, FFTM (France)

Fifth Vice-President, Rudolf Schweizer, VDL (Germany)

At the meeting, the council agreed that it should continue to work towards improving levels of access to leather markets outside the EU, as well as the elimination of export restrictions on raw materials. It also stated its intention to begin implementation of the UNEP declaration on cleaner production, signed in the Czech capital of Prague in April.

Other declared actions were to follow up on the ‘European Tanning Industry Sustainability Review’, which will be submitted to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, during August/September, and to liaise with the chemical industry regarding a Round Table on the new EU Chemicals Policy to be held in November.
