Brazilian leather exports flat in first half 2002
The main export market was China, which increased its requirement for Brazilian leather by 129% year on year. Particular declines were seen in exports to the traditional shoemaking markets of Portugal and Spain (down 15% and 43% respectively) which now tend to import lower added value articles from Brazilian tanneries. Overall, exports of finished leather were up by a healthy 61% in volume and 56% in value.
