Irish Sheep slaughterings down 21.2% in May

The number of sheep slaughtered in May 2002 was 21.2% lower than in May 2001.

The number of cattle slaughterings in the January-May 2002 period was 4.8% lower than the corresponding 2001 figure. Over the same period sheep slaughterings decreased by 33.3%.

EU sheep slaughtering figures for the periods January to December 2001 and 2000 show that overall numbers decreased by 7.7%.
