Nike puts counterfeiters on the run

Acting on intelligence provided by Nike, Vietnamese authorities have seized 25 truckloads of fake material and defective components used to make counterfeit Nike and adidas footwear.

Said to be the first large-scale anti-counterfeiting initiative involving Nike in Vietnam, the action was mounted last week by police in Ho Chi Minh City. Two illegal shoe workshops in the city were raided and rejected parts obtained from local Nike and adidas approved factories seized.

The move follows a trade pact the country signed with the US last year strengthening the protection of copyrights and intellectual property.
