Customer-focused Caswell plans to do even better

Caswell, the 100 year old UK footwear adhesive producer, is seeking further expansion in export markets by investing in plant and machinery to increase its range of water based adhesives in order to meet the latest safety and environmental standards, as well as achieve high levels of performance.

DP 4772 and DP 4632 are water based polyurethanes for bonding leather, PVC, rubber, PU etc. They have excellent resistance to plasticiser migration, oil and water, plus good heat resistance that can be increased by adding WB Hardener if required. DP 4772 dries to a clear film, after which the adhesive is activated and pressed as per normal. It has similar flow properties to solvent based products and is ideal for sole units. DP 4632 with WB hardener is best suited for use on leather uppers. Both have excellent spot tack and while drying times depend on substrate porosity and atmospheric conditions, the minimum is usually around 30 minutes, which can be reduced by force drying.

Caswell is an ISO 9001 certified company in terms of both manufacture and product development. An ability to tailor products to customer requirements has boosted exports, particularly to the USA and Eastern Europe. This in turn has led to the GBP 1 million investment in state of the art production equipment in order to meet the necessary increase in output.
