Nike resumes customised footwear

19/07/2002

Nike has resumed offering customised footwear to customers on line. Nike had offered this service at the end of the 1999, but it became costly, too complicated and not viable.

Now, customers can again order running shoes under the Pegasus Air 2000 model with the capability of personalising such features as the outsole, the amount of cushioning, and width. The last time customers were able to create shoes on line, they could also pick the colours and have their name on the shoe. Customers could also select the shoe they wanted modified.

One customer purchased a Nike running shoe with blue and red stripes and his name inscribed on the shoe. He found that the novelty quickly wore off and that his workout coach made fun of the design. Today, customers can only select the Pegasus Air 2000 model, which costs $90 at retail, but will cost an extra $10 to modify.
