Positive measures boost Moroccan exports

The Moroccan minister of industry, trade, energy and mining, Mustapha Mansouri, said yesterday that the country’s exports of finished leather reached 1,286 tons between April and December 2001. The figure reflects a 55% increase compared to the year-before period.

The minister pointed to measures taken by the government to streamline the sector. These include the creation of a technical centre to monitor the quality of leather, the building a leather manufacturing compound in collaboration with the Italian Leather Association, and initiating a study on the state of tanneries.
