Vietnam’s Leaprodexim records low export levels

09/07/2002
The Vietnamese leather and footwear corporation, Leaprodexim has reported export turnover of only $55 million in the first six months of the year, down 3% against the same period last year.

This low export value, attributed to the poor performances of Leaprodexim`s affiliates in marketing and trade promotion, has led to a shortage in orders. The poor quality and design of Vietnamese-produced footwear is also blamed, as is small-scale production, obsolete technology and the resistance of local producers to international standards, such as SA 8000 and ISO 9002.
