Amazonas celebrates 55th anniversary
Amazonas Produtos para Calcados, Latin-America's largest rubber sole manufacturer, is celebrating its 55th anniversary. The company has factories in Uruguay and Brazil employing 3,500 people in total.
The company is environmentally aware, with all rubber left-overs being recycled and re-used. It is also certificated to ISO 9002/2001 and is the only company in its sector to be so accreditated.
Amazonas has a strong employee support programme in place, providing various social services and projects, such as medical and dental insurance, supermarket and pharmacy credit cards, leisure activities and a ‘Children’s Project’ for employees’ children aged 7-12. Through an agreement with the state education network this project enables children to finish their studies if they have not been able to do so previously.
