Hungary mulls transition period for EU agricultural payments
At talks in Luxembourg, Hungarian Foreign Minister László Kovács said that a three-year transition period to full EU agricultural direct payments would be acceptable for Hungary. He also expressed regret that the EU’s foreign ministers could not agree on the matter.
The Hungarian Central Statistics Office (KSH) said that agricultural producer prices were 6.3% lower in the first four months of 2002, and 2.9% lower in April, than in the corresponding periods of last year. Crop prices fell 10.7% in January-April, whereas livestock and animal product prices were 0.2% higher.
