Heading for a fall….

In western superstition, it is widely believed that walking under a ladder will bring bad luck into your day - or at least a severe head injury from falling objects. A recent report, however, suggests that avoiding them altogether would be a lot better for both your luck and your health- especially if you happen to be wearing leather shoes.

Every year, more than 511,000 Americans are treated in emergency rooms, doctors’ offices and clinics for ladder-related injuries. Most are cuts, bruises and broken bones but more than 300 people actually die each year from ladder accidents - that's almost a death a day, says the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Leather footwear is – at least in part - to blame for this shocking figure. The Academy asserts that wearing leather-soled shoes when using a ladder is a definite no-no, as the lack of grip means taking a tumble is a strong possibility.

In order to keep your luck intact, and bones unbroken, it is recommended that you save your leather slip-ons for the dance floor.
