Russian Quarter 1 budget surplus totals $3.45 billion

Russia's federal budget surplus reached Rbl108 billion (around $3.45 billion) in
the first quarter of 2002, against Rbl49.2 billion the year before, the country’s State Statistics Committee has reported.

Revenues for the federal budget amounted to Rbl472.4 billion including Rbl351.5 billion in tax revenues while expenditures totalled some Rbl364.4 billion (about $11.6 billion). The budget target for the whole of 2002 for revenues was set at Rbl2.126 trillion (around $67.88 billion) and expenditures at Rbl1.947 trillion (approximately $62.18 billion).

The servicing of Russia's public debt during the first quarter amounted to Rbl77.9 billion (around $2.5 billion) while its share of all spending dropped from Quarter 1 2001’s figure of 32.9% to 21.4%.

Collectively, the different regions of Russia received Rbl67.3 billion (about $2.15 billion) in financial aid from the federal budget, which is 18.5% of the entire federal budget.
