Pakistan leather industry leader condemns terrorist campaign
The Chairman of Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA), Fawad Ijaz Khan has condemned in the strongest terms last week’s bomb attack on the US consulate in Karachi.
In a statement issued Monday, Fawad described the bombing as a clear manifestation of cowardice. He said that aside from the human cost, the attack represented a major setback for the Pakistan economy, which had begun to show signs of recovery following the economic fall-out from September 11.
Combined with last month’s bombing in Karachi in which 11 French engineers were killed, the latest act of terrorism could only further harm the country’s relations with its main trading partner, the United States, Fawad said.
He urged the government to do everything in its power to fight the terrorists and safeguard the security of both Pakistani and foreign nationals. If not, he said, the country risked economic desolation.
