Sports brands combat the counterfeiters in Scotland

11/06/2002
Nike, The Pentland Group, Tommy Hilfiger and Timberland are at the forefront of an anti-counterfeiting initiative launched in Scotland today.

According to the organisers, the UK-based Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG), fake goods cost the Scottish Economy around £500 million and 500 jobs last year and helped fund other criminal activities in the country.

More than 150 invitees will be in attendance at the Glasgow event, indicating the seriousness with which major corporations and public protection agencies now view the problem of counterfeiting in Scotland. Displays of counterfeit products will be set out by brand owners, who are in a constant battle to protect their intellectual property rights.

The campaign, orchestrated by Crimestoppers, the Anti-Counterfeiting Group and local Trading Standards Departments is supported and funded by Nike, The Pentland Group, Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland, the European Leisure Software Publishers Association, Rolex and De La Rue plc.
