Israel’s Agriculture Ministry has advised of its first case of "mad cow" disease, which was diagnosed in a 10-year-old cow on the Golan Heights.

According to the Ministry, a brain biopsy performed by the World Organisation for Animal Health in Switzerland confirmed the disease. An emergency plan under which the brains of slaughtered cattle over the age of 30 month will be examined before their meat is released to market will now be put into effect.
