Garant Schuh + Mode AG posts better 2001 results
One of the largest European footwear retailers, Garant Schuh + Mode AG, has posted a 9% rise in turnover to 1,171.5 million euros for 2001. The company currently has 4,815 outlets in 14 European countries. Although this figure is slightly lower in comparison to the previous year, the quantity authorised dealers has actually increased by 220 to 6,690.
There was a slight (1.2%) increase for sales in the German market, with much better figures for Belgium, Holland and East European countries. As a result, the export segment of Garant’s turnover in 2001 increased from 61.7% to 64.5%.
By sector, the increase in sales was most impressive for leather goods and accessories (+23.4%), then sport and leisure goods (+8.5%) and finally footwear (+7,2%).
Figures for the first quarter of 2002 show an even healthier 20% increase in turnover to 353.8 million euros, although the company has forecast a conservative 4% increase for the full year.
Garant’s 75th anniversary will be celebrated on September 23, 2002 in Dusseldorf.
