Hong Kong exporters expect rebound in leather products

30/05/2002

The Hong Kong Exporters' Association has said it expects exports in light manufacturing goods such as leather and apparel to grow at a rate of 5% this year, according to local newspaper reports.

Chairman of the association, Cliff Sun Kai-lit, said that many companies had run down their inventory levels following the US economic slowdown and terrorist attacks of 2001, and were now rushing to place orders. The chairman added that Hong Kong could no longer be complacent in its position as gateway to China, with more and more Chinese enterprises competing for the same business.
