New leather protector from DuPont

27/05/2002

Chemicals group DuPont has developed a new fluorotelomer technology for leather goods designed to make them more durable, water and oil repellent, without changing their look, feel, or smell.

Teflon Leather Protector will be manufactured and sold as a stable anionic fluoropolymer dispersion and can be applied by drum or spray treatment methods to all types of leather. The product works on the molecular level to protect the leather, forming an invisible barrier that guards leather against spills and soiling.

DuPont’s approach is to market Teflon Leather Protector as a consumer brand with a retail hang tag, in the same way as DuPont has already marketed Teflon for use in apparel and furnishings.
