Clariant upgrades Rio de Janeiro facility
Swiss specialty chemicals company Clariant recently inaugurated its new facilities in Brazil, located in the town of Duque de Caxias, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The premises previously belonged to Rioquimica but have now been turned into one of the most productive of Clariant's units in Brazil, with 70% of all local production of sulphur-based dyestuffs and other auxiliary chemicals.
An investment of $2 million was required to refurbish the premises, replace equipment, automate all productive and control processes as well as to redesign the existing industrial infrastructure.
Mauricio Lage, manager at Duque de Caxias and Resende said: "The changes have put this unit at the same level as Clariant's best around the world and will allow for sulphur-based dyestuff production growth of approximately 20%. The facility will also produce the new dyestuff range currently imported from Clariant Spain."
The production of the new plant is for both the Brazilian and wider Latin-American markets. Clariant’s exports of sulphur-based dyestuff from Brazil to the rest of the continent currently run at $1 million a year.
